Pictured above is Caudillo de Colorado rescued from squalor with 10 other Peruvian horses by Colorado Resident, Rita Anderson and the Conquistador Program in May 2007 with the help of many kind people in several states and grants from PetsMart Charities, Petco Foundation and Best Friends Animal Society.
Caudillo de Colorado was called Zantenon before he came to Arizona. The sweet young stallion stood in squalor in a small unventilated brick stall in Colorado for at least 3 years. He was several hundred pounds underweight, his feet had never been trimmed, he was filthy and terrified when he came to Arizona on May 23, 2007.
After four months of care and training with his equine foster care giver, Caudillo de Colorado has become a magnificent Peruvian Paso stallion who is confident, happy, and who shines. With his 12 year-old handler Caudillo de Colorado took a ribbon in his debut in a Scottsdale show. Caudillo has been adopted by a wonderful family in New Mexico.
In the heart of every rescued horse is a champion.
